Boujee

Boujee [boo-jee]:

Hip-hop slang to describe something or someone luxurious in lifestyle but humble in character. Don’t make me go there with that Migos reference…

No lie, ya girl felt all types of boujee in this look. She felt like Foxy Brown when she took off that purple fur coat in the I’ll Be Good video with Jay-Z then casually proceeded to drop that fire verse. Normally when I hear the term “boujee,” I think of Gucci Marmont velvet bags, bottles of Cristal, mink coats and Double R Phantoms. What do they all have in common? They expensive af! But then I realized that being boujee isn’t necessarily based on how you dress, it’s an attitude. Meaning that you are rich in terms of how you carry yourself, how you treat yourself as well as others. It’s all about having that magnetic confidence that everybody wants a dose of but could never fully take from you.  Now going back to this look, it may look expensive but it’s not. As a matter of fact, every piece down to the sneakers I got were found on sale and at a thrift store. You don’t have to break the bank to look good ya’ll and since we are on the subject, I want to share my quick tips when it comes to lookin boujee on a budget HUNTY!

1.) Look for sales:  forget paying full price on a garment that won’t even last you a season. Head over to the sale selection and see what you come across. For example, that leopard jacket you see in the photos below was found online via Fashion Nova for $15, regular price was $30. Can I get an amen!? Click here to see for yourself!

2.) Go on a thrifting spree: even if you aren’t the thrifting type, just try it! Make sure your whole day is free and that you got food in your system because thrifting requires patience. The key is to go in with no expectations for you’ll never know what you may find. The Levi’s jeans in this look were found at Value Village for only $11! Believe me when I say that my wallet crawled up outta my bag to personally thank me for not burning a hole.

3.) Consign ya ish: gather up garments that you don’t wear anymore and take it over to a consignment store. Each piece will be assessed based on quality, style, and brand. With the fashion industry being the world’s largest source of pollution, you’re helping the environment by recycling old garments to make them new again. Oh and did I mention, you can make some good schmoney if your pieces sell? Issa win-win situation!

4.) This one is for the sneakerheads: we’ve all taken an L or 2 when it comes to copping kicks online and I’ll be honest, collecting sneakers is expensive. With releases coming out every week, it’s hard to keep up with the culture. In my Instagram highlight titled “Sneakers,” you’ll come across a segment where I took a trip to the Nike Factory to see what sneakers they got for less. As I went up and down each aisle, I came across grails such as the Nike Air Max 1’s, Motorsport Jordan 4’s and Air Max 95’s. The gold 95’s you see in the photos were from that same trip and only cost ya girl $69 (regular price $139)! Ya’ll know how I am when it comes to gold pieces so these kicks alone made me feel boujee af. Hell, I could walk around in my birthday suit in these lookin like I caught a li…lemme stop.

5.) Own ya boujee: so what if you don’t own a Gucci bag! So what if you took an L on the latest Jordan drop! So what if you’re not in Dubai deciding which Louboutin’s to buy like those Instagram models. We live in a generation where we constantly beat ourselves up for not being and looking successful. You can still slay in a $10 blouse that match your $60 Nike Air Max sneakers that you found on the rack at Marshalls.  It’s okay to be boujee on a budget for it doesn’t damage your wallet and it will allow you to spend your hard earned money on experiences that you’ll cherish forever.
