This past January, Jordan Brand released their Season Of Her women’s sneaker collection that featured three footwear styles after 30 years of being in the game. The sneakers (Air Jordan 1, Air Jordan 1 Hi-Zip, Air Jordan Xll Vachetta Tan) as well as the campaign featured women in cozy Jordan Brand attire looking badass af. The style that stood out to me the most was the Jordan 1 for it featured premium materials such as satin, a metallic Jordan logo, and an embroidered swoosh. The color schemes came out in 10 colorways ranging from Ice Peach to Red Slit, Barely Grape, Hydrogen Blue and Sun Blush. I managed to snag a pair in the Sunset Mist
With the sneaker industry being male-dominated, this collection gives women the chance to be heard. From releasing women’s sizes, to featuring women in the campaign as well as behind the scenes, girl power is an understatement. Stylist and blogger Aleali May styled the photoshoot that featured a diverse group of women dressed in cozy attire, which perfectly represents the collection. With May being the second woman to design an Air Jordan sneaker (Vashtie Kola being the first) I can see why she was selected to style the campaign. It’s one thing to create a sneaker for women but to see an entire collection dedicated to us, lets us know that these brands do recognize us and that our femininity is to not be devalued when it comes our choice of attire and shoe. I wanted to add my take to the campaign by pairing my SOH AJ1’s with tan colored pants and turtleneck while staying warm in a black puffer jacket. I hope to see Nike, Adidas as well as the Jordan Brand continue to collaborate with female influencers instead of waiting X number of years to drop a collection. It was dope seeing Amsterdam-based designer Danielle Cathari collaborate with Adidas Originals to create the reconstructed tracksuits as seen on Kendall Jenner during NYFW. Jumpwomen are here to stay and you best believe we up to somethin!
