Never thought I would land my first collaboration as a blogger for it was always a goal of mine when I first became the seven letter word. When Edmonton’s well known blogger Alyssa Lau blessed me with the opportunity to model pieces from her online shop called NEW CLASSICS, I nearly died from a combination excitement and anxiety. One of my challenges as a fashion blogger was to trying to adjust to the minimal style for I was about daring prints mixed with some tomboy steeze. With the help of NEW CLASSICS, I was able to wrap my head around the whole “less is more” concept. The purpose of Lau’s line is to style women in garments that 1.) Are made to last 2.) Create an environmental impact in the fashion community 3.) Raise awareness in terms of materials used for each garment. Whenever I go shopping for garments, as opposed to checking the price tag first, the first thing I look for is the material the piece is made of, plus determine its longevity.
“At New Classics Studios, we understand that the fashion industry must change in order for us to prolong our environmental and social wellbeing. So, with that being said, we’ve made the commitment to better the world through fashion by ameliorating the standards of the design industry and encouraging others to join the Slow Fashion Movement.”
During the shoot with Magy, a fellow Edmonton blogger, it made me realize that having less pieces equals twice the longevity. It’s more than plain cotton tees and saving energy people! It’s our responsibility in the fashion community to make better decisions when it comes to styling our lives in terms of what we wear, buy, eat, etc. So this raises a question: What can we do to educate others in order to create a longevity of sustainability not only within the fashion industry, but our planet as a whole? How can we #WearTheChange? Visit http://www.newclassics.ca for more information about the brand and check out their pieces while you’re at it. How cute is the Papaya dress?
