Happy Friday my lovely followers!
Since Friday is the most celebrated day of the week, I thought I’d add some jazz to this special day. Some of you may know that I am a huge hip-hop head and I always find ways to incorporate it into my style. Anything from the 90’s to 2005 marked the true era of hip-hop. Thank god my Uncle is a hip-hop head or else I would have never been introduced to timeless music like this (don’t make em like this anymore). A group that will forever remain timeless in the hip-hop golden era is A Tribe Called Quest, a hip-hop group that shocked the East Coast with their political lyrics mixed with jazz-inspired instrumentals. Their second album titled The Low End Theory (1991), was one of the first hip-hop albums to incorporate a jazz-like atmosphere for it allowed the group to expand their creativity. My favourite track off the album is Jazz (We’ve Got) features a mellow, trumpet sounding melody that plays along to the lyrics of Q-Tip and Phife Dawg. Fact: Qtip was only 20 when he wrote this song and stated that he wanted to be successful by age 21. Judging by the success of this alum, he got his wish. He eventually went on to producing another classic album for a nineteen year-old kid named Nasir Jones from Queensbridge New York. Does the word Illmatic ring a bell?
Hopefully this song adds some jazz to your Friday as it has done to mine.
Jazz on everyone!
