Okay, let me first clarify that I am not in New York City right now, even though I want to be. The picture above is from my first trip to this glorious city and believe me, that photo doesn’t do any justice. As some of you fashionistas may know, yesterday marked the first day of the celebration of New York Fashion Week hosted by Mercedes Benz. It’s where designers, celebrities and bloggers gather under one tent and view the upcoming trends for the spring/summer/fall/winter season. Believe me, its quite the sight. Back in 2010, I went to New York for the first time and to just my luck, it was during New York Fashion Week. The Mercedes-Benz tents were all set up and I have never seen so many well-dressed people in my life. Not to sound like a creep, but I plead guilty to people watching. Sorry, it’s my nature. From there on, I developed a new love for fashion and eventually lead me to choose it over everything. It’s either the $99 Zara trench coat or groceries Camille (trench coat, hello?). Just being in the fashion capital of the world really makes you realize why fashion is so important. I loved New York so much that I went back a second time for my mother was taking a business class there and I made her drag me along.
Some looks I like so far are the flowy bohemian style dresses at BCBG. They offer such a mix of timeless elegance and you don’t really have to accessorize that much for they stand out on their own.
Another designer to look out for is Marissa Webb who happens to be the creative director at Banana Republic, premiered her daring designs on the runway. I like how she adds a touch of minimalism in her looks that give off a more modern vibe. For instance the long vest over the dress trend is a cool way to add layers, especially with a girly dress as depicted in the first photo below. Definitely going to keep an eye out for her designs.
Last but not least was Meden, who’s pieces draw the line between what’s modern and mechanical. His creation’s look like they could be put on display at a museum of modern fashion. Shoot, I’d fly all the way there and see it if I could. Dresses had high slits incorporated with UV prints and leather trim. To die for!
