I am half asleep as I type this. Just came back from the best hike of life. About an hour and a half drive to a spot called Pololu Valley, just at the end of highway 270. This area marks the end of the highway in the Big Island that has a trail going down into the black lava landscape of the Kohala Coast. The sight is absolutely breathtaking! But heres the catch, in order to go down to the black sand beach, you have to hike down a 420 ft trail. The trail going down takes about 45 minutes, but going up takes about an hour. It is essential to wear running shoes and comfortable clothing. My clothing attire was much different from the standard hiking wear. Try a floral basketball jersey dress, denim vest and orange sneakers which remain clean to this day? You think I’m lying when I say I have to look my best. After 45 minutes of walking over countless rocks and slippery trails, the beach was waving at us, literally.
