Hittin up Hilo

Aloha from the island! Since I’m always down for an adventure, the family and I decided to embark on yet another road trip to Hilo (pronounced hee-lo), the more downtown version of Hawaii. The drive to Hilo is about an hour and a half to about a two hour drive but I guarantee it will be the best road trip of your life. Hilo is known for their over-the-top markets: Β fresh fruit, jewelry, clothing, gift shops, and souvenirs. There was this juice called “Ginger Lemonade” where it combines a variety of fruits with ginger. I’m not a fan of ginger but was willing to give this juice a try. The flavour I tried was called “Lilikoi,” a very citrus-inspired flavour. I took a sip from my mom’s bottle and I was hooked. I loved it so much that I went back to buy another one, this time in strawberry. A few earrings, a bracelet and a trip to the candy store, it was a day well spent.

For anyone who has not been to Hilo, I highly recommend you check out Cafe 100. It’s a fast food restaurant known for their Loco Moco’s. It’s a cuisine that consists of white rice topped with a hamburger patty, eggs and gravy. You think I’m lying when I say that this is a the greatest dish you will ever eat. Oh, and another fact, it only costs $2.75.

Another place to check out is the Akaka Falls State Park, a park that overlooks the Kahuna and Akaka Β waterfall that is exactly 442 metres deep. You get to walk across a wobbly bridge and take plenty of pictures from a variety of viewpoints. Check out the pictures below!
